Glaucoma explained
Glaucoma is a disease where fluid inside the eye does not drain correctly, which increases eye pressure. The elevated eye pressure can damage the optic nerve, resulting in permanent and irreversible vision loss. There are 80 million people worldwide who have glaucoma, however, about half of that population is unaware of their diagnosis. Fortunately, with routine eye exams, glaucoma can be caught and treated early, which can greatly improve disease outcome and preserve vision. Treatment can range from eye drops to surgical intervention. At Optique, we have top of the line technology to detect the earliest changes and provide you with the best care.

the optique difference
Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT)
Optique is fortunate to have the top-of-the-line tomographer for detecting and monitoring glaucoma. There is simply no better technology available anywhere. With this device, we can generate 3D images of the optic nerves and see any minute amount of damage from glaucoma.
But, interpreting those results is our specialty. Dr. Aishwarya Pillai is among the top trained optometrists in the country in ocular diseases including glaucoma. We take the results of OCT measurements and make decisions on treatment based on evidence-based medicine and tailor this to individual patient needs.
Virtual Visual Fields
The days of clunky, room-sized machines to check your side vision are over. The latest technology uses virtual reality to accurately check for damage to peripheral vision due to glaucoma. And Optique uses a device born from research and development at the prestigious Bascolm-Palmer Eye Institute.
On-Site Pharmacy
One of the largest barriers to effective treatment of glaucoma is when patients have difficulty obtaining their glaucoma medications. Medications can be costly and inconvenient to purchase at pharmacies. To ease these concerns, Optique has an in-house pharmacy for generic medications, available for the same or lower cost than most retail pharmacies, but without the hassle of having to go somewhere else. We are able to track our patients’ supplies and ensure that they never run out of these vision-saving medicines.
